The Word We Don't Want to Discuss... #FAIL

The last thing a potential client wants to bring to the table when we are being interviewed as a resource to achieve their branding goals is: prior product failure.

It is never fun to bring up all the items DIDN'T work.

While it is of critical importance to work within budget, we may need to consider product quality and the value of customer adoption for these products when our funds are limited. Buying on price alone may result in final product that could actual cause damage to the brand.

Have you experienced the "bargain" fridge magnet that slides lazily to the floor under the weight of a child's photo. Few things are more frustrating than a pen that writes in fits and spurts, and the newest version of pen failure may be achieved in purchasing the lowest cost, "trendy" stylus tip that actually gets in the way of the ballpoint. #FAIL

This is not your moment.

Has your procurement team ever defaulted to the cheapest water bottle (with a leaky lid), or the coffee mug with a handle that was not meant to be "removable". Maybe you have seen the multi-tool that has the potential to cause physical harm.

These are not your moments!

Can $0.15 - o.50 per pen  be the difference between creating engagement and achieving brand goals? . . . Do you want to roll the dice? You might get lucky! Or is there the real(ized) chance these attempts at savvy spending could result in another ineffective product you literally cannot give away!

Choose wisely! If you wouldn't hire the cheapest accountant to represent your business, then you might want to develop a relationship with a brand partner that will ensure that your valuable budgets are invested in products that are on message, create engagement through extended use and have the bigger picture potential to build brand love.

What does "Rush" look like?

We live in a world in a hurry, and sometimes we wonder... is it gaining momentum?

In the branding world, we not only meet requirements to come up with creative product solutions, we may also navigate last minute requests for creative design. This becomes exponentially more complicated timelines get tighter. As soon as we are looking at rush production to meet an event, we immediately shift gears to creative problem solving.

If you need 24-hour production and can ship overnight, it can be done! However, this level of service comes at a cost that we work to help our customers avoid by staying close to their business goals and helping to keep tabs on their event schedule.

Rush production is a little bit like a jigsaw puzzle when are working to piece together available inventory, working vector art files, production timelines and shipping considerations required to ensure an event date can be met.

The best chances for success comes with clean, 1 color, vector art (ex. files that end with the extensions:  .eps), and more than 24 hours to produce (wink). Additional imprint colors and locations may improve the final product, but must be vetted in advance if we are working on timelines that are tighter than the standard production window.

While we like to think of our team as meticulous managers of your brand and strict sticklers for perfection, as each order moves through production, we must keep in mind that many industry suppliers may not inherently adhere to our high expectations and quality standards.

This means all orders, especially rush orders, require hand holding to achieve our high levels of production success (which is represented in an exceptionally low error rate). So, when we push production to “rush”, there is more risk that something could go sideways. We may discover a step as simple as a proof can create trouble if there is a delay with a tight timeline looming.

The standard production timeline (15 business days) allows for the lowest risk and most room for our team to massage your order through any one of the various production systems that play out when we work with hundreds of sources.

Fortunately, we have strong relationships, that allow advantages with our preferred suppliers who genuinely care about our outcomes, and we believe we might even generate a sense of excitement for our clients’ projects that make the CSR and possibly even the in-house production team feel more invested. As a result of these relationships, there is a better chance we will receive approval for rush production requests. It also helps the production team receive our “nudge and hover” approach with joy (rather than annoyance) when we remain in “close contact” to protect timelines and create accountability (as there is always a risk that something could go awry... that is where the real creative problem solving comes into play!)

With strong supplier relationships, we may be able to ship an order in less than 15 business days as a favor at no additional charge to our customers. It’s when we get to tighter than 10 business days that things can become more challenging, especially when this timeline does not consider transit time, which is typically 4-5 business day (ex. Ground shipping).

But in a busy world filled with frantic schedules and more responsibilities than any of us can reasonably squeeze in within a week, we find ourselves in rush territory with enough frequency that we have begun to consider ourselves experts at a processes that ensures we realize high levels of success.

That being said, we prefer to be proactive and behave more like an in-house asset providing reminders of a pending event date or by sending a quick email to check inventory levels. But, it will be inevitable that a surprise will occur, and you can be confident that we will be ready to respond.

So know that we are here to handle your orders with great care and excellent oversight... Feel free to put our creativity to the test!

Calendars: a timeless marketing tool or desk art!?!

A key, common marketing tool for brand awareness is:  the calendar. But let’s have a little fun with this staple product in the branded merchandise toy chest...While wall calendars and paper desk calendars are obvious and affordable, what if we were to reconsider this old school tool and step into 2013 with perpetual calendars or objects that track the date but are more like desk art!

Are you referencing a calendar daily in your home or work space? While we have moved toward electronic calendars, there is something about the written commitment that helps people connect from when they will work out to making time for meetings and appointments. As a result, it is not difficult to understand why these products have earned a respected space in the world of advertising.

If you walked into your clients office and asked to purchase 2 sq’ of real estate within 5 feet of their desk, they would look at you like you were crazy! Those 2 sq’ would be expensive, as this is very valuable space. However, give them a gift, and the space is yours at NO cost, and working hard in your company’s interests.

You can even infuse creative elements into promotional calendars by developing a yearlong theme that highlights your company’s products and services. Every month can feature a message or image that will remind clients why and how much they value your company as a resource.

In one study*, 85% of individuals who received calendars do business with the firm advertised on the calendar and company’s that gifted calendars saw a 5% increase in business with calendar recipients. That is good news going into a new year!

These statistics demonstrate that sending existing and prospective customers custom calendars, desk calendars, wall calendars, perpetual calendars, or magnet calendars will almost guarantee your company more business.

While the electronic calendar keeps us on track, the wall calendar still stands as an office staple. Who knew that the average household uses an up to 4 calendars per home and employees have access to 2.5 calendars at all times.

Draw attention to your business by simply incorporating promotional calendars into your marketing program. Calendars generate top of mind awareness because they really work!

PPAI EXPO

January is Expo time in Las Vegas! http://expo.ppai.org/

Promotions West brought a team of five to Promotional Products Association International’s annual PPAI Expo, the industry’s largest show.  We hit the ground running with more than 20,000 distributors attending Expo with more than 1,400 suppliers exhibiting new products, best sellers, as well as showing color trends and meeting for valuable networking opportunities.

Want a glimpse of exciting new products and a few of our favorite things?...

SiliPints aren’t silly… they are silicone = unbreakable!

Check out these small, fun & stylish cell phone stands! They stick to the back of your phone, and voila!... You can prop up your phone or ipad. This is a trendy, affordable and convenient gift that can carry your company’s brand.

Road warriors will love this luggage-suit. Custom imprinted luggage wraps that help identify the typical, nondescript, black carry on. It is a unique way to communicate your brand and provide a product of convenience.

Have you ever told your customer, “We’ve Got You Covered!”?  Give them a clever reminder with umbrellas that include all-over-printing and underside printing.

How would you like to have two feet of real estate in your customers’ offices, quite possibly two feet away from their desk?…Yes, this is possible!... with calendars.

We may be a mobile society, but calendars are not dead. We like to remind our clients that industry staples are top sellers for a reason -- if you tried to tape your business card to their wall, they would probably call you crazy. The average office calendar is viewed from 5 to 13 times a day, 365 days a year.

By the way, if I asked you to tell me what business gave you the calendar in your office (without looking!), most people can recall the advertiser that supplied them with the calendar! More importantly, 83% of businesses purchase the products or services of the advertiser that supplied them with the calendar. Don’t be limited by traditional wall calendars. We have creative ideas to reach your clients and gain valuable real estate in their offices or on their desks!

Start your year off right and make sure your brand is positioned strategically with your customers and prospects.
